Partner visas can be applied for if you are in Australia or overseas

Partner visas enable you to be sponsored for a visa if you are legally married, in a defacto relationship or engaged to be married to an Australian citizen or Permanent Resident or Eligible New Zealand Citizen.

There are two steps to the Partner visa application process. In the first stage a temporary Partner visa is granted, with full work and travel rights and access to Medicare. The second stage occurs two years after the grant of the temporary visa when a Permanent Partner visa is granted.

For partner visa applicants who are engaged to be married, a third visa stage occurs prior to arrival in Australia, giving time for the applicant to travel to Australia and marry their spouse.

Same sex couples are able to apply for a partner visa on the basis of a de facto or marriage relationship. Same sex couples can also apply for the Prospective Marriage Visa. Click here to learn more.
