The 186 visa offers a pathway to Australian Permanent Residence for skilled workers

The 186 Employer Nomination Scheme visa enables skilled workers with an occupation on the Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List who have an employer to sponsor them the opportunity to apply for Australian Permanent Residence.

The visa has two streams. 457 visa holders who have worked for a sponsoring employer for two years holding a 457 visa can apply through the Temporary Residence Transition Stream. Other applicants can apply through the Direct Entry Stream.

Expert advice for the complex 186 visa

The team at MyAusPath work with employers, business owners, HR Managers and individuals to make the complex 186 ENS application process simple and stress free, and to make sure the employer and employee meet the different requirements for DE and TRTS applications.

186 ENS Common Criteria

Applicants for the 186 ENS visa need to be under 50 years of age. They also need to meet health, English language and character requirements.

There are some exceptions to the age limit and English requirement, which is why it is important to seek specific advice for your particular situation.

186 Sponsoring Employers are required to meet Training Benchmark requirements.

186 ENS Direct Entry Stream

To apply for a 186 DE visa an applicant is required to have a positive Skills Assessment for an occupation on the Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List, as well as three years of fully qualified work experience in their occupation.

Applicants also need to meet health, age, character and English requirements.

186 ENS Temporary Residence Transition Stream

To apply for a 186 TRTS visa an applicant is required to have worked for their sponsoring employer for two years while holding a 457 visa.

TRTS applicants do not require a Skills Assessment because their work experience with their sponsoring employer shows that they have the skills required to work in Australia.

English language requirements are different for the TRTS visa. There are also English exemptions available to some 186 TRTS visa applicants.
